There are so many things I love about Spring. The changing weather, the smell of fresh cut grass, the sounds of birds chirping and seeing all the new growth. “Things in Spring That Make Me Sing” is the title of this month’s YoPlay lesson plan and it is full of mindful yoga play of all the things that we like about Spring.
Included in this lesson plan are some book suggestions that follow our theme. One of them, “Could it Be?” by Joanne Oppenheim is super cute. I made a video of me reading it along with my daughter Stella showing you how to incorporate yoga poses and mindful movements in a playful way with the book.
Take a look at our video here.
Other book suggestions from our lesson plan are some of my spring favorites:
Eric Carle’s classic book of the life cycle of ” The Tiny Seed” is a great book to include some movement and play while bringing in the theme of Spring. You can mindfully use your breath to be the wind that blows the seed. Reach up on your tippy toes for sun pose. And get really tiny in child’s pose to be the Seed.
Kate Messner’s book of “Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt” is a great exploration of all the wonderful green leafy things above the ground in a garden as well as below the busy earth where earthworms dig and animals burrow. You can grow your arms out like the branches of a tree and dig a hole for yourself under your yoga mat like a burrowing skunk. You can even include a partner yoga pose for the red wheelbarrow.
If you would like to incorporate a Mindfulness Activity with any of these books or as you talk about Spring.
